The human body systems control and activate responses to conditions that occur in our body. If one or more of theses systems of the body are compromised then we feel unwell and do not enjoy optimal health. Read the rest of this entry »

Studies have shown that the nutrient content of the soil has decreased over the last few years. If this is the case then today’s fruit and vegetables are a shadow of what they formally were. Many of us eat with no thought of the nutritional value of the stuff we put in our mouth. Of the 13 major nutrients found in fruits and vegetables, six have declined substantially, according to a study by Donald Davis, a biochemist at the University of Texas at Austin. Using data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Davis concludes that recently grown crops have shown decreases of up to 38 percent in protein, calcium, vitamin C, phosphorus, iron and riboflavin when compared with produce from past decades
We need these for our body to function if we are not getting these we will be unwell. This does not include the trace elements we all need. Maybe that is the reason that everything is said to taste like chicken.
What are the reasons for this?
Like any other competitive industry, farmers’ attempts to drive up profits have led them to use new techniques to increase production, Davis said. The faster-grown fruits don’t have as much time to develop the nutrients. “Farmers get paid by the weight of a crop, not by amount of nutrients,” Davis said. He called this the “dilution effect”: As fruits and vegetables grown in the United States become larger and more plentiful, they provide fewer vitamins and minerals. “It’s a simple inverse relationship: The higher the yield, the lower the nutrients,” he said.
Davis said this happens because slower-growing crops have more time to absorb nutrients from both the sun and the soil.
I think that these could be some of the reasons that our society suffers from being overweight and the rise of food intolerance as well as being unhealthy. This just my opinion but there seems to be a lot off studies on this subject. So it goes to show you are what you eat.
As the title of this blog says this is a blog is about personal health and wellness. This is my story about the journey I took too that goal. Over my life time I have taken my only resource, My BODY for granted and if you are like me you have too. That is until something happens and then it is central. Some of these happenings could be a car accident, a heart attack, a twisted bowel, broken bone and then the questions start to come. These could be how long till I am normal again too is it every going to get better. In all my years I have consumed a lot of the Health care system up here in Canada thank God I did not have to pay for it. I have had a separated liver that was 4 months in the Hospital. Two heart bypasses. A couple of twisted bowels, one broken nose and the list go on. This does not include all the tests too find out what was wrong and then the follow up test to see if it worked. Do you get the idea that I have had a lot of time to think about my body and how I get better thank God I did? The only thing that you and I have is our body we can abuse it or take care of it.
Are vegetables more nutritious raw or cooked? If you are an omnivore, you probably don′t care — you are used to cooked food.
Meat eaters may eat raw vegetables in salads, with dips, or possibly juiced. But we eat our meat cooked, and we want the rest of our dinner cooked as well.
Vegetarians are a different story. If you are a firm believer in the health benefits of a vegetarian diet, you probably want to know if cooking enhances or diminishes the nutritional value of food. Of course, raw foodists are already convinced that raw is the way to go. So what is more nutritious, raw or cooked vegetables? It turns out that there is no simple answer to that question.
